Our History

Located on a spacious campus, St. George Catholic School provides a loving, disciplined, faith-filled and secure environment for the growth of the whole child.  St. George Catholic School has evolved and grown to meet the ever-changing needs of its students and families by keeping abreast of educational and technological advances.  The school encourages individual success by Evangelizing Hearts, Educating Minds, Encouraging Talent and Embracing the Future.  Celebrating sixty-one years of education this 2020-2021 school year, St. George Catholic School continues to provide its students with an education steeped in Catholic Gospel values and academic excellence.

St. George Catholic School opened its doors in September 1960 under the direction and leadership of the Sisters of St. Joseph.  The school began with 200 students and five teachers, servicing children in first through sixth grades in what is now known as “Guardian Angels Hall”.   Over the years, the school grew from those 200 students in 1960 to presently over 1000 students, due to the expansion of a fourth section of each grade level.  Throughout the years the physical campus also grew, with the addition of the middle school building, 2nd/3rd grade building, 4th/5th grade building, gymnasium, Activity center and PreK building were built along with other building renovations.  The faculty and staff expanded as student enrollment increased, growing from five teachers in 1960 to over 100 faculty and staff members in the recent years.

St. George Catholic School continues to build on its foundation of academic excellence by hiring certified teachers to instruct students in forty-three homerooms from grades Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  Classroom teachers and certified catechists provide instruction in Gospel values throughout the day as well as within formal Religion classes.  Additional faculty and staff members enhance the curriculum by providing instruction in enrichment areas such as art, music, computer, Spanish, library, guidance, physical ed, and a variety of activity classes.  Through these efforts, St. George has been accredited by the SACS since 2010 and has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence since 2016.
